Southern Hip Hop

Southern Hip Hop is a subgenre of Hip Hop music that originated in the Southern United States. It is characterized by its heavy use of 808s, hi-hats, and other percussion instruments, as well as its lyrical content which often focuses on topics such as poverty, crime, and violence. Southern Hip Hop is also known for its distinct drawl and slang, as well as its use of samples from classic soul and funk records. Artists such as OutKast, UGK, and 8Ball & MJG are considered pioneers of the genre.
