Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Strings. By Songfacts®.

Much of Southern California five-piece Young the Giant's self-titled debut album was inspired by the beach, and this song was an attempt to showcase the sounds of the seashore. Frontman Sameer Gadhia told Spinner: "We attempted to have the arrangements cascade together and, tonally, we all worked hard with Joe to recreate the fervor and wetness of splashing waves."

Gadhia explained the song's meaning to Spinner: "The beach has always provided the idea of regeneration. The tide constantly ebbs and flows; almost, the idea of eternity. In the song, a lover attempts to run away from the sunset in hopes of living the day one more time with his woman. In this surreal, dreamy paradise, the two are each other's only reminder of a fading reality."
