Rick James' song "Marry Jane" is not an ode to a sexy woman, but rather a love song to marijuana, something D'Angelo did years later on his song "Brown Sugar."
James wrote the song with his keyboard player, Billy Nunn. It was his second single as a solo artist, his first being the album's title track.
