This aggressive track was a departure in sound and attitude for T-Pain, who was known for his mellow, Auto-Tune inflected songs. In "Church," he's threatening someone following a confrontation at a club, letting the guy know he's going to "take his ass to church." The real T-Pain was much more likely to be in the studio than starting fights in a club, so he used an alias, crediting the song as "featuring Teddy Verseti," which is really him.
"Church" featured in the 2008 movie Step Up 2 The Streets alongside another track T-Pain was involved with: Flo Rida's "Low."
This was the third single from T-Pain's second album, Epiphany. By this time, he was one of the hottest producers and artists in hip-hop, thanks in large part to his lead role in the Auto-Tune revolution. Epiphany went to #1 in America.
