This was co-written and produced by Justin Timberlake, who also provided backing vocals on this track. Vocalist Simon Le Bon recalled that Timberlake was drunk when he agreed to do "Falling Down." He told Q Magazine (February 2008): "We were in a lock-in after he'd done his (Birmingham) show. He'd had half a bottle of malt when he said, 'Let's write another song for your album.'"
Timberlake was born in 1981, the same year Duran Duran released their first album.
The video for "Falling Down" was shot in Los Angeles and depicts the theme of models in rehab. However the original version featuring topless models was banned by many music networks, so they were forced to shoot a new less controversial version. Simon Le Bon told the New Musical Express: "The concept of models in rehab has so much to do with what the song's about. It's very sad but there's a kind of beauty in it as well."
