Kylie Minogue was born in Melbourne Australia, of Welsh ancestry. A highly successful TV actress during her teens, she was signed to a recording contract after being spotted performing "The Loco-Motion" in a pub with the cast of her TV show after an awards presentation. Her cover of the song topped the Australian charts for seven weeks, resulting in a UK record deal. It went on to reach #2 in UK and #3 in the US.
In May, 2005, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but made a full recovery. Kylie's breast cancer diagnosis marked a turning point, not just in her personal life but in how she was perceived by the public. Post-recovery, she embraced her new role as a symbol of resilience and shared that the experience shifted her priorities, influencing her music and philanthropic interests.
In 1988, she became the youngest female to top the UK albums chart when her debut, Kylie, went to #1. That record stood until 2003, when Avril Lavigne, at 18, went to the top with Let Go. The title changed hands a few more times as artists got younger - 17-year-old Billie Eilish claimed it in 2019 with When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
